Biedermeier dress

made from antique brocade

Period: around 1840, Germany

We designed the following late Biedermeier ladies' suit for a piano recital. For this dress we were lucky enough to acquire original Brocade from the 19th century, which was both just stable enough and sufficient in terms of quantity.

A suit from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg served us as model. The top is strengthened and boned. An additional corset ensures the appropriate silhouette. Distinctive for that time is the pleated collar that tapers off at the front and at the back while leaving the shoulders uncovered.

Multiple underskirts are worn underneath the wide skirt, some made of horsehair, some flounced.
